A Time to Love (Last Summer, First Love, Book 1)
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (July, 1994)
Authors: Jennifer Baker and Carin Greenberg Baker
Average review score:

Powerfully Intriging!
No matter how many times I read this book I still feel all the emotions that I felt the first time I read it. I am so looking forward to reading the sequel, if I could only find it since it has gone out of print. Anyone who comes across this story should consider themselves lucky. Baker should think of writing more books like this one and maybe putting this book back in print.

Tomorrow and Beyond: Masterpieces of Science Fiction Art
Published in Paperback by Workman Publishing Company (November, 1978)
Author: Ian Summers
Average review score:

Amazing collection of sci-fi art
My dad bought Ian Summers' Tomorrow & Beyond when I was just a kid back either in the late 1970s or early 1980s (somewhere between 1979 and 1981). All this book is is a collection of science fiction artwork, which tells you who does each of the paintings. There is nothing much to read in this book, just a collection of artwork. Most of the artwork is very surrealistic, many of the artwork you see was new to 1978 when this book was first published. I can't remember the artists featured in this book because this book hadn't been with me since 1995, it was left behind when I moved after my mother had a divorce with my dad, so the book is still (as far as I know) in the hands of my dad. When Tomorrow & Beyond was published late in 1978, OMNI was a brand new magazine dealing with science, and many of the illustrations in this book would later be featured as covers of various issues of OMNI. If you're fascinated with how sci-fi artwork was like in the 1970s, be sure to find a copy of Tomorrow & Beyond.

Touch the Sky Summer
Published in Hardcover by Dial Books for Young Readers (June, 1997)
Authors: Jean Van Leeuwen and Dan Andreasen
Average review score:

My Own Touch the Sky Summers
Jean Van Leeuwen's story of summer vacations at the typical Northern lake brought back many of my own childhood memories as I read it to my two boys, Pieter and Lucas. Even the names of the two brothers in the story are so close to home! I grew up in west Michigan and spent many Summer vacations with my parents and siblings, 5 sisters and 1 brother, at cottages on a Big Star Lake in northern Michigan. The sounds and smells and sights described in the book flooded my mind with pockets of fond memories of our family weeks in the woods. We also had our raft to swim to, about 30 yards out from shore. And as we grew and our swimming proficiancies increased, we were allowed to swim out with each other and, of course, our Dad, who taught us to dive properly. I found the book to ring true for many a families' vacations throughout the country. I know the text and the beautiful illustrations by Dan Andreason will be enjoyed by anyone who picks up this book and is swept away by its pages.

Triumphs of the Human Spirit: Real Cancer Survivors, Real Battles, Real Victories
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (December, 2001)
Author: Barry W. Summers
Average review score:

A Real Inspiration!
This book was inspiring to me as each chapter is a real-life tale of personal achievement over a deadly disease. For cancer patients, it should provide insights, and for loved ones, ways of coping and guiding the patient. For me with a family history of cancer, I see it as preparation! A nice little book to have.

Two Summers Too Hot
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (July, 2003)
Author: Wilson Crawford
Average review score:

New Edition-Perfect Story for Your Summer Beach Trip
I loved this book. I had read the first edition, but this new paperback has more story at a better price. The author, Wilson Crawford, is from North Carolina and seems to understand what growing up in the South is all about. The characters, a young boy growing into manhood and young woman, trying to escape the clutches of a dead end, boring mill town are developed skillfully. Their lives are detailed during two separate summers in the town of Linton, North Carolina. The author weaves their lives together, intertwining on a chance set of circumstances, one hot humid night. It causes a scandal of epic proportions in this little town where nothing happens but the stop lights changing. Enjoy this book. I'm going to read "The Envelope" next-I enjoy the style of Mr. Crawford. Very easy to read.
